We started this session off recapping from last week and sharing what we found interesting and what we were still struggling with. Here is a photo of the great bunch of people I am learning digital fluency with!
Today we worked on the following:
- Is used for remote calling, share screen, recorded meetings automatically save in google drive.
-Microphone on mute when in a big group!
-Microphone on mute when in a big group!
We had a google meet with Dorothy Burt, we discussed the term 'RATE' and what this means, 'recognise, amplify, turbocharger and effective practice".
-This is a tote-taking function, add reminders can add photos (will display text further down on note) and drawings.
- 3 dots will copy to google docs.
- Can keep feedback for students and just copy this.
- Can use it on your phone also.
- You can do lots of things on Gmail such as change settings- archive, labels, filter, staring etc.
- Turn confidential mode on/off - recipients can not copy the email etc
- Scheduling emails to go at certain times
- smart compose - helps you write your email
- Can add DFI badge to your email signature.
-M key will automatically show you the monthly calendar, D for Day, W for Weekly, A for agenda view.
- C create an event.
- I found it useful to pin commonly used tables like the weekly timetable, Gmail, drive, calendar etc.
- In PTN we often have students who open so many tabs each day they will reopen our studio site and they have thousands of tabs open today I learnt that by right-click then tab close tabs to the right it will then close all those tabs 😀
- Today I enjoyed learning about group tabs. To create group tabs you right-click on the tab bar then press add a new group. Below is a picture of what groupings looks like on tabs.
- One tab to restore tabs.
Google Meet Recording
Lastly to end the day we did a google meet with another person. We were to record the meeting and then find it in our drive to share. To begin with, I started the google meet but I thought it automatically recorded it ekkk! This wasn't the case so we had to go back into the meet and record it by pressing on the 3 dots to start the recording. Below is a picture of me laughing at my own mistakes 😂
We also learnt how to add this to our blogs. To do this we must go into HTML instead of the pencil, then we can copy and paste the link into our blog.

Kia ora Courtney,
ReplyDeleteGreat to see you learning as you go. Don't worry to much about the Google Meet error. These things happen, and you will never forget how to do it though. I hope the right click on the tabs will be life changing for you and the other teachers in your hub.
Ngā mihi,
Sharon
Thanks for yours support Sharon! Yes I will have to teach the other teachers in the studio this!
ReplyDeleteThanks,
Courtney
Kia ora Courtney,
ReplyDeleteClosing those tabs to the right is so useful for learners who have just opened so many tabs! Setting up filters in your gmail inbox can be such a great time saver too. As Sharon said, don't worry about the recording. It's a great way to just jump on in and have a go - that students work looked incredible!
