Session 3 Media

This time around we did our DFI online via google meet! So it was nice to work from home for the majority of today. I enjoyed working from home but it was a little bit harder to have interactions with others on the course.

We started off the session with a recap of our last DFI session. I had a question about emails and adding 'stars' to them. I understand how to do this now, yay! You just need to go to the 3 dots then filter and 'add star'. So glad to know this is pretty easy to do 😀

Hapara Hot Tips-

All classes- shows you all the classes in your school.

Can reorder students so you have the ones you need to keep an eye on top.

Grouping students- need to change my literacy group and add the new students who have come through to our studio. Also need to create our maths group.

Connecting with Manaiakalani: Dorothy

It's all about the hook- how do we creatively engage our students?

Creativity is an important part of learning progress. It doesn't just happen in kindergarten it should happen throughout your life. It's not just messy fun, it's developing important parts of learning which help them to form original ideas.

It is important that teachers give the students something to do and create- when the hands get going the head is involved.

You tube

It is important to set this as unlisted so it is just for people with the link. People can not search for your clips this way.

Turn to comments off on your channel.

Playlists- a collection of videos, this could be good to use for their inquiry so they don't end up on random clips on youtube!

Google Drawing

- Very versatile! Can use for comics, storyboard, poster etc.

- Can mask images- put them into shapes etc

- Links- change edit to copy then it ensures they make a copy.

Here is an example of the poster I made on google drawing.

I found this challenging to first put on my blog. But after inquiring I have learnt that you have to add a gadget then add an image then shrink to fit.

Google Slides

- Planning is an important part of the process.

- Ditch the defaults- then you can arrange it your way.

- Pictures really are worth 1000 words!

- Use constant formatting - model this so the students learn this too, two fonts maximum.

- Great for students to create animations!

Pick a path

Lastly to end the day I made a 'pick a path' via google slides. This was fun to do as I could create questionnaires to do with our stage 5 decodable reading programme around the 'ck' rule.

I have learnt to use the control k or insert link to attach other slides to the answers.

I am slowly beginning to become more confident using my blog and attaching slides and videos to this. Again I had to go to file then publish to the web, make sure I was in HTML then embed the link. Below is a copy of my yet to be finished pick a path!
